Hi;
I just bought a 2 TB Seagate External hard drive which the guy at the store said we could hook up to the tv via usb & watch movies straight from it.

We have tried hooking it up to our DVD player & Xbox & neither register anyhing is plugged into the USB port??

Please help! This is the whole reason we bought the harddrive!!

:confused:

Does the drive actually spin up? It might just not be getting enough power... if it came with one of those two-connector USB cables where one is for extra power, they might both need to be plugged in.

I have no experience with using USB devices in TVs or consoles, though, so I'm not going to be much help beyond this... have you tried a normal USB key just to see if it works?

One other thing to keep in mind is that many external hard drives these days are be formatted with NTFS, but outside of PCs it's poorly supported and your devices might only recognise FAT32 formatted devices. The problem with FAT32, though, is that it performs rather poorly when used for large volumes and you really have to go out of your way to use it since the tools that come with Windows don't actually allow you to format partitions bigger than 32GB using FAT32. Not to mention it has a file size limit of 4GB so if you did use FAT32 you may well not be able to put your movies on it.

Windows won't format a 2TB drive in Fat32 because of it's size.

There are a few third party apps that will. I used Acronis because
I already own it. I did install the Drive in the Computer Internally as a slave to do the Formatting. Acronis didn't seem to like the Drive in a USB enclosure for some reason.

I use the Drive plugged into a DVD Player. I also have some limitations to the type Video Files, but your TV's owners manual should have that spelled out.

Try connecting it to a computer to see if it works at all, perhaps. If it doesn't work at all then you would want to exchange it.
