Wattage for a gaming computer

Depends on parts, i 300watts is not going to be enough, i can tell you now, i recommend 550W +, if anything 650W would be better.

sighhhhhh my original plan was to turn a pre built computer to a gaming computer but now it seems like TOO much of a hassle. there is just so many damn things wrong with it, that makes it unfit. I think i am gonna scrap my plan

I have a 750watt, does the job, a 300 is not very big, thats standard for a non gaming pc now a days.

Actually, i was running this:

6000+ x2
M2a-vm
3 case fans
2gb of hyperx ram
a 40gb hdd
and a geforce 6600

off a compaq 250W psu.

That's a pretty large recommendation, the recommendations should only go far what specific parts you have.

I'm now running that same rig, plus 4 more case fans, a 180gb hdd. and a 9600 overclocked ed. gfx card instead of the 6600 on a 500W.

And like most expierenced users say, it doesnt always matter abou the watts, more on the Amps. i would suggest the OP talks to either Cromewell or Bigfellla about these things.

You have to take into consideration the G card, what card is he running? A 9600 would be fine for games I guess, anything bigger and your going to need another 6 pin Pci-e.
