.wav to .mp3 or wma

My band and I recorded a few songs on my Compact flash card made by Lexar, and the file was saved as a .wav, which should play fine. The file will play on my computer, but will not convert to mp3 or wma, and will not burn to a cd. Does anyone have any suggestions to get this done?

I read a thread about mp3 conversions to wav, but don't think it would help me ( http://www.computerforum.com/68611-change-mp3-files-wav.html )

should i attempt to use the audacity program?

its pretty simple. Just open Audacity and then drag the sound file into the dark grey area. Once the song is loaded, click File and then go down the list to "Export as Mp3." After you click that it should just convert the file.

Note: You might need to download some codecs if it does not work.

There's also an older program that you can still find online calle SCMPX. It's really a Winamp clone, but it also has a file converter.
