Way to upgrade iOS of unsupported iPad?

I have an iPad Air 2, and its currently running iOS 15.8.2. I've seen claims that it's somehow possible to update to iOS 17. Can any one tell me if this is true and how I could do this?

The hardware doesn't support anything higher than 15.8.2 unfortunately. The ipad air 2 will be 10 years old this year, time for an upgrade.

I concur. iOS15 was last supported around September 2021-22 (iOS16 came out in Sept. 2022). You may have some time left, but apps will start to require iOS versions that are newer than that.

I know there are some die hard fans to keep older Macbooks/iMacs alive with an unsupported bootloader that would allow newish macOS versions, but I have not seen that with the iOS.
