I would like to know if Windows XP PRO will see all 150gb"s or do you have to parition it . I was told that windows will only see about 137gb . I currently have a 74 gb raptor but would like to go to the 150 gb raptor. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated thanks.

depends on which version I believe, I was under the impression that XP was never limited by the 137 limit, but someone told me that XP without any service packs couldn't read more, so I guess if you have sp1a or later you should be fine, but partitioning is a good idea if you're installing an os on the drive so you can keep windows and your documents on separate partitions

I am running xp pro sp2 and I'm glad to hear this info . A friend is trying to get me to upgrade to a WD 120gb 3.0 and says it is better than the Raptor as far as transfering data but I wonder? Thanks for the reply because I'm new at this and don't want to waste my money.

yeah I doubt that, transfer rates are still bottle necked severely by the speed of the hard disk, ide vs sata vs sata2 matters, but not like 7200 vs 10k rpm's

SP1 is needed at a minimum, as well as a BIOS and chipset that recognize drives over 137GB. Most PCs made in the past three years fall into this category.

I am running XP Pro SP2 and I have a ASUS SLI Premium board. My question is am I better off using the 150gb Raptor or going with a SATA 2 hard drive? Which one will give me the best performance.
My System
asus AN8 SLI Premium mobo
Amd 64x2 4400+ dual core cpu
enermax 600watt psu
2 6800 GS Evga 256mb boards
2 gb of Cosair dual channel pc3200 (4 x 512 )
Pri. HD WD 10,000 rpm 74gb sata raptor
Sec > HD WD 7200 rpm 250gb sata

NEC DL DVD burner
Case Aspire Navigator

You gotta check and compare things like latency times and access times and throughput on the spec sheets of each drive.

ok thanks for the info and quick reply.I really like being apart of this Forum, you guys have always been helpful and kind to me unlike some of the other forums I've visited. They seem to treat people as being dumb or just plain ignorant. Any way enough said thanks for the help.
