WD HDD Recovery

I have a WD External HDD 500GB that for no good reason "decided" to screw with me. Over half the data that was on the drive is now missing. The space is still being used and I know this because the available space hasn't changed. Is there any way I can retrieve this data? Help me out if you can. Thanks.

a little more info? how did it decide to "screw" with you? did you by some chance accidently change some files to hidden?

No. I left for about 2 hours and when I got back, the files were gone. Before I left, everything was there. No issues. The files were mostly video files. Lots of movies and stuff.
