My external hard drive is recognized and "working properly" as I looked in Device manager but it will not load. What should I do now? I have important files in it did I lose all my files? I had many frustrated attempts to load it. I always ejected the drive properly with safe removal.

Had someone with a similar issue yesterday. Have a look at my guide for her. It'll be the same process for you. Just don't follow S.T.A.R.S. suggestion to initialize the drive, as you may then lose your data.
