I just bought 2 WD raptor X, and was wondering if anybody can tell me what the purpose of the thin black plastic that covers part of the drive, i at first thought it was just for scratch resistance but not sure.

lets put it this way, you wouldnt want a piece of debris hitting something as delicate as that flying at 10k rpm

i dont think i'm being very clear. the plastic is just a thin piece that can be peeled off if anybody with a raptor x can help please do so!!!!

most likely it wouldnt do anything, if you peeled it off. is it on the or the front, or back? i wouldn't peel it off because it could potentially void the warrenty

Is it the plastic film they use to keep scratches off of the window on the drive until you get it home and installed? (I feel like we're playing I Spy here :P) If there's no window underneath can you take a picture of it so we can see what you're talking about
