WD vs Seagate

Hey guys I know some of these questions might consider me a newb, but I'm okey with that. I'd rather ask the question now and get the answer, then have someone ask me later and not have an answer.

I've been looking at a computer for my parents. Upgrading from a pentium 4 to a dual processor. Whats the difference between the wd 500gb 16mb buffer and the Seagate 500gb 32mb buffer. Whats buffer? Also I see this WD Rapto 150gig 10000rpm 16mb buffer. Whats the difference there? Some clarification would be awesome and thanks for your time.

A buffer is basically an area of memory a hardware device or software program uses when it needs a constant, uninterrupted flow of information.
The seagate has doubled for faster cache time. plus seagate carries a 5 yr warranty over the 3 yr of Western Digital. Hope this helps.
 
seagate for performance and reliability, western digital for lower power consumption cooler operation and reliability.

those are the two best companies imo. personally, i dont think theres a huge difference but seagate tends to make a faster drive with higher bandwidth, whereas the western digital drivers tend to run at lower temperatures and they consume less power.
