Web browsing speed normal. Gaming speed lags?

I've noticed that my browsing speed is normal and is running at the speed it should be. But when I open any online multiplayer game the Ping is always triple what it should be.. and this frustrates me.

I'm running Avast as anti virus with the Windows firewall on. Windows xp service pack 3.

Please help me out guys

What are you using to determine "what it should be"?

Gaming puts a lot more stress on an internet connection than web browsing does.

What is your connection speed and what are your pings in game? Also note the server that youre playing on will make a huge influence on your ping. If youre trying to play on a crappy server half way around the world, your ping is going to be bad almost no matter what.
