Web host for a forum

I am looking to start up a forum and I am new to forum hosting. I don't know if I am going to use vBulletin, PHPBB or what... I can write a little PHP, so I might just get PHPBB for free and modify it to my liking with no cost . My main question is what should I look for in a hosting service?

http://hostgator.com is an excellent hosting service. the hatchling plan is around 4.95 a month and has plenty of storage and bandwidth for you. the plan allows only one domain name so if you were wanting to use more than one you might want to bump up to the next package.

they have great prices and excellent customer service. overall 10/10 one of the best hosts i have ever used.

I'm not going to really suggest which board software to get other then, saying choose carefully cause it's pretty hard to change boards later without loosing posts/members and such.

As for hosting I would recommend www.precision-media.net/, they've been pretty good to me.
