Web-surfing desktop build

Hey guys. I might be building a new computer for some friends of mine. They mainly only get on the Internet and look up stuff. I don't know what their budget is yet, but they were looking at a $450 dollar computer at an office supply store. I told them I would check some stuff out and get back to them and maybe just build one for them for so much cheaper.

I haven't looked up the products yet, but here are the capabilities I think I'm looking for(but if you have better suggestions please let me know) :

4GB of RAM
Cheapish MOBO with an onboard GPU

And I don't know what other specifications I will particularly need for this build, such as the amount of volts in the power supply or what not.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

i posted some links in another forum, but newegg has some really good recertifieds and decent new computers at that price that'll do fine, one of the new ones was on discount or something and had an i3-2100, and was below 450, you can't beat that.

Well it is fine to build one at that price but i was looking and saw it and you can't build something as good as the one i saw for as cheap as it was, it really depends on what you want to do, this would just be easier and would out perform a build that too.

building it is worth it at any budget. Better warranties, and you have better equipment in it.

And for web surfing, go with an AMD Athlon II x2, or could probably even go to Sempron, and get a better quality motherboard. Also worth it to get a lowend vid card, like a GT220 or HD3450 or so.

his appeared after i posted, yes it is worth it at any budget and the warranty can be better, i was just say at that price you could build something decent, but i saw some things on newegg that were at a great price that couldn't be built at.

Hey well they are in their 60s and maybe 70s, I don't think they will be doing any gaming.

Thanks for the advice, I'm also looking to build one, just to get more experience and stuff. As I haven't built one, but I have taken one apart and put it back together. They won't need a good video card because they will not be doing anything that should require it, and if they decide that they want one, I will put one in for them.

So, any idea what level of PSU I should get?

for no video you can get like 300w really, but more is better cuz if they do want one you need 500w, and my 500w was on sale for 37 with shipping, but if you buy that i3 will give them the most speed for the money and it's integrated graphics will serve them well and do anything they want

Okay, here are the parts I have chosen so far. I haven't talked to them about this yet, this is just a preliminary build. Any suggestions? Remember, all they will be doing is surfing the web and maybe some Microsoft office programs.

CPU

Motherboard

RAM

PSU

HDD

Optical Drive

OS(They might want Vista or XP, I'm not sure yet)
