Webpages & copyright regulations

Hi,

I am creating a webpage for the very first time and am enquiring if anyone can direct me to appropriate sites that would assist in making this task simpler. My other query is, are there copyright rules and regulations for setting up a website? Am I able to place a link on my website directing the user to another website without seeking permission from the author of the site the user will be linked to? I would appreciate some comments and hints.

Thank you for you time
Tammy

Why not use Dreamweaver MX it's easy to use and you can create websites easily and they can look professional.

As to those links to other websites I do not think you have to ask the author as I have links to other websites on my website

You will generally need, if you intend for the task to be simple
1. a website WYSIWYG editor like macromedia frontpage or macromedia dreamweaver
They have a free 30 day trial download, at http://www.macromedia.com/software/dreamweaver/

2. A graphics program to create images, too popular ones are adobe photoshop which is very expensive, and also macromedia fireworks, which I believe also has a 30 day free trial download.

3. You need a place to host your website. Preferable to get a paid web hosting account where you are not bound by terms and conditions or banners.
There is a comprehensive list at http://dir.yahoo.com/Business_and_Economy/Business_to_Business/Communications_and_Networking/Internet_and_World_Wide_Web/Network_Service_Providers/Hosting/Web_Site_Hosting/Free_Hosting/

4. A FTP program to upload the website you created to your web host. Cuteftp is very popular, as is WSFTP which has a free version for educational use I think. You can download the latest trial version with limited features at download.com

Also since you are also from Australia, you may want to check out http://www.webpagedesign.com.au/ They have some free templates, and also a forum to discuss web design at http://www.webpagedesign.com.au/memb/

Also you can generally link to other sites without worrying about copyright or any issues like that, you just cannot copy the content of their site onto your own unless you obtain prior permission.

another place for hosting is www.ne0-net.com very cheap, to good to be true, exept some how it is. you can also ask them for a smaller free package. I think they are still redoing there site but im not sure, they said it will be done soon though.

Thank you very much for these replies, they are very much appreciated. I will endeavour to visit the sites you have suggested and hopefully my website will be underway shortly. I am happy to receive further ideas/suggestions people may have.

I will place a link on this forum when I have finished my site and look forward to some feedback, please be kind, remember I am only an ameteur.

Thanks again
Tammy
