hi all not sure if this is i th correct place if not sorry

i am making a html website (you know with notepad) and i am only just new to this cause i use online services to make websites (it is slightly easier) and i was wondering now ive got the website i was wondering how to you make it live ?
i saw saw a video and he saved his website to a folder on his desktop named www.myfirstwebsite.com or something like that and hesaid thhats how you do it i tried it and i did not work anybody know how to make it work.

First you need to register a domain name with a registrar. I personally used Godaddy.com, but there's thousands of others out there. I've seen another one listed here that was cheaper than Godaddy, but I can't think of the name of the site off hand. After that, you'll need to either get hosting from a third party, or host it yourself. You need to update the nameservers with your registrar to point to your IP address. If you're hosting it yourself, you'll need to set up a static route in your router to the system that has the server software running. Apache is probably one of the most common servers and it's also free. If you're hosting from Windows, you also have the option of IIS, though I admittedly have no experience with it, so someone else will need to chime in. There's gotta be a tutorial somewhere here on CF that goes into more detail than I've provided, but I'm just covering the absolute basics of what you need to do.
