Website Forum layout

hey im creating a website forum ( like this one ) and i need a good layout i have dreamweaver, But i no what the layout for all the good sites like this one is Vbulliten, But i cant really pay 85 for a year.... and thats in US... Any sugestions?
 
SMF and PHPBB are two good bulliten boards that are free.
IMO PHPBB is easier to skin and mod but i havent used SMF too much so my opinions are a little biased.
 
Ive got an account on Freeforums.org which usses phbb but i need a way to edit the html code so i can put advertisements at the top:D:D:D:D please reply quick b4 i do somthing nooby
 
Ill explain in more detail. Theres lots off free website forums out there like www.freeforums.org Which use phbb Which is good and all but i cant put my own codes into it, So i wanna get a webhost and my own domain name but does any1 have the codes for phbb or any other free forum software?
 
Many hosts have scripts that install phpbb for you.

Both are free downloads and relatively easy to install with basic MySQL and FTP knowledge.

If you go with phpBB, i can help you put ads at the top. I know how it works. Or atleast a few versions ago i could...

SMF, i dont have much modding experience with.
 
In order to know where to place the ads, i need to know which theme youre using.
Youre using phpbb right? Which version?
 
hmm, i dont have much experience with 3.0 but it shouldnt be too hard.

Well i didnt want 2 make a site untill i new i could put ads and get a free layout like phbb.... so i dont realy have site in short terms, but i want to get one
 
doesnt matter, you dont even have to have a site i guess, just tell me what theme your using and ill try to find where to place the code lol.
