I asked this question a long time ago but cant find the post anymore, what is the most common page resolution for websites these days? Assuming more and more people are switching to widescreens, what is the recommended size?

Its 1024 x 768. The reason is that there are still millions of user still happy with the computer they bought in 2002 (or sometime around then), and because of that the standard resolution size is 1024 x 768.

But there is a special way of making web pages elasticate according the screen size.

When I make a website, I typically work around 1024x768, but try to make it visible at 800x600 (nothing overlapping and such) and fine at 1280x1024 or wide screen resolutions around that size.

1024/768 is allright with me, and im using a 1280/1024 screen. it still looks fine when i come across a page that is made for 1024.
