I am here at my moms house for a few more days and my mom has a hp dv6000. It is a light blue screen with lines that shoot across, My mom says it happens when she runs a lot of programs or the sims 2 and it has happen since day one. When I used it, it did it when I opened internet explorer and the laptop was on for like ten minutes. Help or ideas is always greatly appreciated.

I can think of 3 things here.

1. upgrade the graphics card drivers.

2. Upgrade direct x

3. The screen may be on its way out, you can buy a new one for a hundred £/$ or so, maybe more depending on the model, size etc

Yeah it is still under warranty and I called HP for her today and they had me update the gpu drivers and I will try the hooking it to a monitor.

Connect the laptop to an external monitor (if there is one) and test the picture again. If everything looks normal, then it's problably the GPU and there is not much you can do. Is the laptoo still under warranty?

Or rather the other way around. If the external screen looks fine, then the GPU is probably OK.

It's worth calling the manufacturer about in either case.

Yeah I ran it with the monitor and it still blue screen so it is the gpu, called HP and there sending my mom a box. Funny thing is while on the phone the lady argued with me saying that vista home premium could be a 64 bit OS, what a idiot. My mom got lucky cause her warranty is up in 30 days. Do you guys think it is worth extending the warranty?

Well, HP gives 90 day extended warranty once you get it back from them... See how it runs, If you have any problems with in the 90 days then send it back and get the warranty.. If you think its all fixed and working fine, Then there is no need to. I have worked with HP before on sending pcs in for repair. I ended up sending it back 3 times and getting a full replacement. So If i buy a HP id get the warranty on it.

Yes, technically, you can get Vista Home Premium 64bit....but, that would have nothing to do with your graphics issue... Silly tech support lady...
