How can I get that edge off of the desktop? What's wrong? I use XP, and it only happens on this ONE user. Nowhere else, just on the desktop.

This happened on my mates computer after he changed the icon sizes.

I think he changed his icons to large and then tried to make them small again using the advanced tab in display options>appearance

If you click the advanced button then the drop down which says desktop and go to icon mine are 32 on 1024x768

Hope it helps :D

yeah, try resetting them, or you can create them again if you dont mind. delete them and drag the shortcuts onto your desktop again. get a program like TweakUI from www.tweakxp.com and have it remove the "my computer" and "recycle bin" , restart if you would like, and then have the program put it back onto the desktop. As for the folders, just recreate them as shortcuts.

have you tried
right click>new>folder

if that new folder will still contain the fuzzy edges?

Hmm

Well maybe try installing the newest graphics drivers and enabling effects on the account. I believe it has to do with transparency.

Hmmm

I just downloaded desktopx and windowblinds to change the skin on windows. I uninstalled it because I didn't like the way the skins looked and also the folders stayed the same. However, now when I go into the control panel all of the icons are missing! They are just blank images! And, the images that are supposed to come up next to the program names when I click start are no longer there either! HELP!

erm..... theres a program out there, i cant remeber exactly what it is but its from microsoft, something to do with powertoys, maybe someone else can clarify. But it has an option to "REPAIR ALL ICONS" which im guessing might help a lot in your case, i used to have it but i cant for the life of me remeber what it was.

Desktop properties/appearance/effects/ make sure the top two box's are checked and use "Fade Effect" as the first and use "Clear type" for the second, then make sure "use Large Icons" is off, and the last 3 are checked

next:
Right Click "My Computer" and go to properties/Advanced/preformance/Check the box for "Adjust for best appearance"

hmm.... change you background picture to something dark so its less noticable?

also are you overclocking your videocard?
