Weird sound coming from fan?

I just got a new HP dv4000 for Christmas. Everything has been going great with it untill recently. I turned it on one day and it booted up like normal. I was working on it for a lil while and then the fan underneith kicked on. Instead of being quiet like usual, it is making wierd clicking noises almost. You know how when you open up an application, you can almost here the computer "working" and the information going through the "veins"? Well thats sorta what it sounds like. It only does it when the fan is on. What could it be and how can I fix it?

Hey

I hate to scare you but are you sure its a fan and not a HDD? If you are, then the fan is most likely about to die on you. You would need to buy a new one. It could be the processor fan or a normal air intake/out-take fan. If you have a fan on the graphics card or the chipset, also check those.

Download something called "hardware notebook control"
Leave it running in the background for a few days, it will let you know if its the hard drive.

Yea, I agree with jancz3rt, I may be the HD making clicking noises. I'd do a HD scan and maybe even a defrag. If it was a fan, it technically could make clicking noises, but only if there was an obstruction.

ya its only when the fan is on. When the fan turns off, the clicking noise goes away. Its coming from the vents that the arrow points too:
