Weird Sounds From Laptop

Hey!

Sometimes I get a weird sound coming from my laptop. I'm not sure where it's coming from, but it might be the harddisk. The sound is similar to the sound that comes when you use a scanner to scan something, if you know what i mean. Does anyone know where the sound is coming from and what I can do to fix it?

if it's new and never happened b4...sounds like a failing drive to me

have their been any other symptoms ur PC is having besides the noise...random points of slow performance? anything u don't remember noticing b4 the sound started coming

also how old is the drive/laptop itself? specs?
 
I fit is the hard drive, there's really nothing you can do once it begins making noises. This is a good point to start backing up your data. Even if it's not your HD, it's a good idea to keep many backups.

Is this sound constant? Is the HD easy to remove(many today are in little trays) If so, pull the drive then switch the laptop back on. If the noise continues, then you know it's something else(probably the fan...)
