Weird thing going on...

With my new PC, sometimes when I use it for more than, say, 2 hours, and I got to shut it off, the montior and DVD drives shut off, but not my case fans, cold cathode, and processor fan. I would like to know why this is, and if i could hurt my system.

Hmm... Doesn't sound good.... Are those fans plugged into the PSU, or the Mobo?

For some unknown reason, power is not being completely removed (which a little power usually continues to the mobo, but only for an LED or 2)

Does this eventually stop, or do they keep running until you unplug the comp?

I have to turn off the switch on the PSU. And the fans are plugged directly into the PSU. I just hope it doesn't affect my system, like break the parts. I'll try and wait a little while to see if it will go off. This only happens when I leave it on for a long time....

well i have one fan plugged into the mobo and 3 into the psu directly and when i turn my comp off all the fans turn off. So i dont know if that is it, but it could be different.

hmm that's weird...my grandpa's opticle mouse doesn't turn off when the pc's turned off but i don't know why your fan and cathode doesn't turn off...Try a difference psu and see what happens.

I have an Orion XP400 PSU. I know its crappy but it works.
The evidence may point to the contrary.

Have you another psu to try?

what happens when you press the power button during this fans running time, does it power back on.
What if you hold the power button, again during the spooky fans running yet machine off time

If I hold down the power button on the case it won't shut off. If I turn off the switch on the PSU it shuts off, then I turn the switch back to the on position and the machine remains off. That is the only way I can get it to sut off when it f's up like that. I haven't tried another PSU because I can't get a hold of one.

sounds psu related to me.

Only thing to suggest is laying you hands on a replacement psu, i mean just a old crap one for the test. At least you'll eliminate one potential (likely) cause

Well, it didn't do it after leaving the thing on all day, but that is not enough evidence. I can't play a bunch of games and do it cuz that PSU is WAAAAY too small to handle my junk. (its only like a 150w)

I've been having a similar problem. My system would shut down often and iregularly. I changed out my PSU and it fixed the problem. I recently read somewhere that a faulty PSU causes a majority of computer problems.

Some PSUs will continue to keep fans active until the case has sufficiently cooled .... dunno if that model does or not
