I wanted to post an issue i was having with my pc. I am new on the forums so please bear with me. A while back i changed my power supply thinking it might be better from a 400 to 650, I think, and then i changed out my cpu fan with the exact part. I had a little difficulty getting it in. After I did all of that it ran for 3 days. Then on the 3rd day i kept getting a pop up to shut down the computer several times and chose no every time because I was watching a video. After several times it shut off and remained that way. When I press the power button it would attempt to start for a few seconds and shut off and would continue to do so until i took away all the power. I went out and bought a new power supply with the same voltage I had originally and nothing new happend. Was it the power supply that fried something? Did the difficulty i was having maybe somehow affect the cpu?? Also I replaced the compound between the cpu and fan to ensure it to run better. I ran an XP OS, 1 gig of ram not sure the motherboard or any other specifics. I tore it down and got rid of the case. I figured as soon as i figure out whats wrong then i will put it back together. Any thoughts?

It is possible that you didn't get your cpu fan seated correctly and causing the cpu to overheat. Did you notice your temps when the problem started?

I didnt take notice to the temps but before i moved i had cats and didnt always clean it out but why would it die like that?? I have to remove power for it to stop attempting to power up.

Thermal Glue for HeatSinks

With some CPU Fans, there is a glue for contact between the fan and cpu. Did you check with the cpu's manufacturer about that? It is called "Thermal Glue"

Thermal adhesive is a type of thermally conductive glue used for electronic components and heatsinks. Thermal adhesive is similar to thermal paste in that it is used for transferring heat from one surface to another, it usually consists of two separate parts that are mixed together and applied to the surfaces to be bonded. This is commonly used to bond heatsinks to motherboard chipsets and video card processors where there are no mounting holes to clamp a heatsink down.

For more info about "Thermal Glue" check out:

Let me know how it turned out.

And please check out my blogs!

nope actually i had replaced it and the power supply before the issues started i only had to replace the cooler because i accidently broke a fan blade and yes i stripped the old compound off and replaced that too.
