Weirdest PSU problem

I had the weirdest PSU problem. I fixed it by replacing the PSU, but here was the problem, I am just wondering if anyone else has ever seen this.

When I shut down my system, the HDD light and the Power light would flicker, also causing my speakers or if my head phone was attached to make loud clicking noises. The system could be off for over 24 hours and it would still make the noise and would still be flickering.

The system ran fine when I turned it on, no over heat problems, no crashing, no BSOD.

Anyone know what could have caused that?

That is wierd, just a faulty PSU. If putting a new one didn't fix it my first guess would be the motherboard, but at least you got it fixed, right?

The PSU is basically always on. You may of seen some boards with lights that come on when the PSU switch is flipped(but PC's still "off") Perhaps there was something putting out too much power or something... Something that didn't totally turn off like it normally should?

OH, forgot to mention that the light on 1 of my dvd drives was flickering to, not both of them, just 1. I probably should have checked to see if the hard drive and the dvd player were on the same cord. But I did not think of that until just now.

But yeah, replacing the PSU fixed the problem, so I guess I will just chock it up to a learning experience.

YOu could always test the power connections with a multimeter and see if it's really off... Assuming you still have the PSU handy ;)
