i just bought a new DVD burners combo with some DVD RW discs and the discs arent even showing up when i put em in, ive tried a few so its not just one faulty disc..does it make a difference which kind i bought (they were DVD+RW rewriteable)...what annoys me is that i posted a thread a week ago asking if everything works together and nobody ever replied

this is the burner: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827106992

First of all re your annoyance, had you got an answer on the player I'm sure nobody would have said it's no good. Every Lite-On drive I've ever bought is still in perfect running order, which is more than I can say for other brands. Re disks, you can never be sure if you buy the cheaper disks. Most of the time they work, sometimes not. Best to start off with smaller quantities until you find a reliable brand.

You did not say what software you are using to burn the dvds. Explorer/XP cannot burn dvds (CD only) and if you put a blank dvd disk in, all that will happen is that the drive may change name eg to CD Drive or whatever. If you are using proper burning software you can normally get the properties of the disk, which should be blank.

If you want info on the drive and disks, Nero Info Tool is useful. Also, the cd/dvd speed tool on the same page is useful for benchmarking and checking burned disks (the Scan Disc tab). Another useful tool is Lite-On's Smart Burn.

im not positive but if thats the dvd drive u have in that link then i dont think it supports writing to dvd disks it can read dvds and it can burn to cd-r and cd+r but in the specs it says nothing about buring to dvd disks

I think Redbull{wings} is right. It only show dvd rom. If you run the Nero Info Tool that I posted it will confirm what you can read and write.

Added later: Looked at your original post. I can't speak for everyone who viewed the post but you threw in a motherboard too. It could be that people saw a motherboard, cd/dvd drive and thought "any motherboard will go with any drive so no need to review".
