after getting rid of my viruses/spywaye/other crap.... i bluescreen alot now... everest has counted 8 in the last 5 days.... any ideas?

Try a good registry cleaner and run some system utilities like "sfc /scannow" at the Run prompt to see what system files are damaged or missing. A good run of memtest would be another if memory faults had come up.

Which programs were you using? I assume it was a good one. If so, check if it has a rollback option or a restore option that it has backed up before doing the fix.

Also, on a side note*... How long does memtest usually take to run? I did it once on my laptop and it took over 14 hours and it still kept on going.. After this, I left and a couple hours or so later came back.. my laptop was off..

Memtest doesn't actually need more then 5 or 6 hours total while others will argue for 8 to ten. When running memtest on a few occasions here when it reached the 4th or 5th test errors were found on the first run. If no errors are found right away you let it for a few hours anyways like overnight at the most. If nothing has been found then you are set to go.

NVCT.SYS i think... next time it BSODs ill remember it.... but its a driver issue, but i just re-installed my video driver, so i THINK its not it, but it might be...

Sometimes you can right to the support site to look up older drivers for the model you are running. Those are usually there for older cards that will run updates only up to a certain point. The other option to email the support staff for the card manufacturer and they usually respond with a link.

i have tried 4 drivers on my videocard... i even went back to 81.4X... so i doubt its my videocard driver, unless im not completly removing some components...

Did you use the uninstaller that NVidia provides? Before installing an update the first set generally have to be removed first. The Windows hardware detection will then make the new drivers active once they are installed. You also have to restart the system inbetween.

That's not as thorough at times as the remover that usually comes with the original cd or can be downloaded from the utility section at the support site. Sometimes you can have a driver still left seeing problems after. Here's one link that discusses removing old drivers. http://www.tweakguides.com/NVFORCE_4.html

Yea I have had program hang ups with there firewall, I dont install it anymore on anyones computer! thought it might be worth a try!

If you need a good firewall there are some others that won't cause a list of problems like Jetico, Kerrio, SyGate, and others. NVidia as a rule is far more geared for video and gaming tools rather then security tools. Those freebies like that are usually there as a "courtesy" for customers and not real protection. Try running without one for a period of time until you know everything is running normal again.
