Westell 6100 Networking Problem

Hey everyone I recently installed Verizon Wireless DSL at my aunts house with a Westell 6100 router. I installed the software correctly, but sadly I am unable to get another computer up to this router. Here is a link to the router: http://www.westell.com/content/products/pdf/liteline.pdf The other computer is running windows 98 (lol), but I did get a Linksys WMP54G installed and working on my network. Is that router that I got with the Verizon able to be wirelessly linked with the downstairs computer? Do I need a new router to complete this and if I do what kind should I get and how should I go about doing this? I appreciate any advice that you have for me.

Jeff

I dunno if 98 will support wireless, you may just wanna "hard-wire" it. I used the 6100 on a Linksys WRT54G router and wired it to two PC's with 98 and no problem.

I always thought about the hard wire idea, but I had the wireless desktop card hooked up to the network at my house and it identified it no problem so could there be an issue with the network at their house? I am maybe thinking that the router is unable to handle a wireless card. I have a linksys WRT54G router to use if there is an issue with the router, but can it work with the Verizon DSL and how could I make this work. Do you have any other ideas? Thanks for your help.

I used the WRT54G on Verizon with no problem at all. I also have it wireless connected to my laptop(Win XP). The WMP54G is a wireless card, that goes in the back of the PC, that is not a wireless router.

So you used the WRT54G as your router for the Verizon DSL. How did you do that if you don't mind me asking and I know the WMP54G is a desktop card. That is the card I used on the computer with the windows 98. The computer I actually have the router is an upstairs one that has xp so I am networking 2 computers. But if you dont mind me asking on how you got the WRT54G router using Verizon DSL instead of the Westell 6100 one I would really appreciate it because then it should pick up the desktop then I would guess?
Thanks for all your help.

I ran wire out of the modem into the ethernet(WAN) port on the WRT54G, I plugged in my computer connections (1-4 ports). I ran the setup disk on my XP PC, that will give you instructions. Oh, did you "bridge" the connection in the modem? You have to log into the modem to do that, connect the modem directly to the XP PC and go to internet explorer and type in 192.168.1.1(I think), the username: admin , the password: password . I think that is the way they are setup from stock. You will want to go to config and somewhere in there, you want to bridge connections, the first one, it is something that has a v in it. After you bridge, then we will worry about wireless.

Hey thanks for all your help so far. I have followed the connections like you said and I have the dsl up on the main computer and the linksys router has the internet light on as well as the 1st port has the light on. I still don't understand what you mean about the bridging thing. Also I have no startup disk that came with the wrt54g for some reason so I went on their website and downloaded this easy connect tool and it says it doesn't identify my router. So if anyone could help me out with the bridging, how to get the router onto my computer, and then the wireless to the desktop card on the downstairs computer I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Call Verizon Tech Support, their number is 1-800-567-6789. They have stepped me through bridging a modem before, Tell them you need to bridge your modem and tell them your situation. Hopefully you will get someone who speaks friggin' English.
