What about this card?

I think I'm going to buy this card for my HP computer. I know it's gonna bottle neck but I really want a dx10 card, and it has to be some kinda improvement over my x700pro. Plus, it's so much cheaper than a 8800 and comes with quake wars free. So, I end up payin about $120 on it ,after the free game. System: HP a1250n, X2 +3800, 2 gb ram, 250gb hdd, win xp media center. I will be replaceing the 300w psu with a ocz 700w psu. What yall think?

Going for an OCZ GameX or StealthX 700w model? Go for the GameXStream being the better series for that brand. For a newer AGP model by ATI that would have to be the HD 2600 Pro for the mid range card there.

MSI, Asus, EVGA come out as the top three contenders performance wise there as far as brand. I have the ozc gamextreeme 700w psu. Also I am lookin for a pci x card no agp. Which do you think would have more of a heat problem inside a cramped hp case the 8600gts or 8800gt? I am now intreged by the 8800gt I didnt see that one before. Is it that much better? Also I dont know it this helps but i run a lcd samsung at 1680x1050 res. Also, I just relized that card is pci 2.0, my current mobo is socket 939 I don't think they are combatible, are they? Or should I stick with my first choice the 8600gts?

The 8800GT is much better in gaming (I know I said that before). The 8600GTS isn't really a gaming card, as it's just a mid-ranged card. The 8800GT is actually one of the best cards out there, especially for the price.
 
I edited my previous post with a few more quesitons about the cards. not sure if it will work with my computer being that the 8800gt on newegg is pci 2.0? see above post.
 
PCI-E 2.0 cards are backwards compatible with traditional PCI-E x16 slots, you just need to make sure you have a powerful enough PSU.
 
ok now im getting confused someone else on here in a differnt post told me you cant use pci2.0 with socket 939 mobos. Had to be newer mobos with at least am2 socket. I know it will bottle neck probably but anyhing has to be better than my x700 pro. So 2.0is compatible with socket 939 and windows xp?
 
The socket on the motherboard has nothing to do with the compatibility between PCI-e x16 (1.1) and PCI-e 2.0. It'll work.

I already own the psu. I have two quesitons.

1. Will the card be ok heat wise in a case like mine or are hp cases not vented well enough? Bassically I don't want a fried card.

2. Will the psu be ok wattage wise? It won't fry my hp computer becasue of the high wattage will it? The hp only has a 300w now, and I don't want to put to high a wattage psu in and kill my computer ,basically. I put it in once and it worked fine, I just wondered, over time, would it hurt anything.

I'm just checking before I buy this video card. I don't want to have to return anything. Thank you for any help.
 
Sry to add something else but where can u find your pci-e version number seen posts sayin versions before 1.1 might not work with 2.0, and I know I have an old mobo.
 
The 8800gt can be a hot card.. You could cut a vent on the side of the case, next to the PCi-e card, maybe even install a fan there. A pc will only take as much power as it needs. Installing a high wattage/high current PSU will cause no damage or negative effects.

If you have an older PCIe slot, it'll be either 1.0 or 1.1. THere a a multitude of sys info apps, they might be able to tell you. (I.e Sisoft sandra, everest, pc wizard, GPUz)
