What advantages do the nahelem chipset have over todays models?

Just browsing toms ,looked at some of the specs of the nehelem and the X58 MB ,it doesnt look anymore impressive than what we have now .Why is everyone so hyped about it?
 
It should be a 20-50% increase according to Anandtech. It is not much better while running single threads, but each core is able to run two threads at once, so it will be quite a bit better for "multi-tasking", expected to be between 1.2 and 2x better.

BTW, anyone know if a thread is the same as a process?

Thread is a, well, a piece of program, a "sub-process" that can use up one core, whereas a process is actually nothing but a running program (which can be made up of several threads).

- Native quad core design
- QuickPath technology replaces FSB
- Integrated memory controller
- Supports Triple channel DDR3
- Each core is able to run two threads at once (HyperThreading)

As oeogon said Nehalem will shine in multi-tasking and mutli-threaded applications. With time more and more applications will become mutli-threaded. So, the gap between Nehalem and Yorkfield will probably get larger with time.

So an increase of 1mhz will get you a jump of 20mhz...

That means, yes you can overclock the CPU, but the RAM will not be overclocked as much, and you be forced to get faster RAM

Thats the only thing i dont like

Faster ram ain't gonna do anything here. You can still set the divider to anyting you like, or set the RAM speed to be independent of the system bus. No problems here at all, unless they're is bringing in some new quirks.
