What all does iTunes backup?

I'm getting ready for the iOS4 update on my iPod, and the computer I'm using to do the upgrade isn't the one I originally synced my iPod with, the original computer is all screwed up, so the copy of iTunes I'm using doesn't have all the music that's on my iPod in it's library. My question is, if I right click "Jordan's iPod" in iTunes and then click "Back Up", will it back up my music, or just apps and settings and stuff?

If it doesn't backup my music will I have to re-rip CDs and start from scratch, or is there some way I can copy my iPod's music over to my computer? (I know I can copy over purchased stuff, so that makes it quite a bit easier, but ripping is a pain.) Thanks in advance.

Backing up only takes care of the phone's settings, contacts, stuff like that. For everything else iTunes assumes that you already have it on your computer since you would have to have it to sync it on the iPhone in the first place. It's possible to get non-purchased media off of an iPhone, but you can't do it through iTunes. Here is some more info:
