Ya pick out your processer (AMD/INTEL) then you find the mobo that it'll work with based on the socket, then choose a motherboard that'll have all the options your looking for such as chipset,Raid, ram capacity,sound,agp/pci express, etc.
As far as recomendations go with what processer to get you'd have to provide a bit of info on what your planning on doing with the computer.
K say i pick Intel, i find a mobo that matches socket, whats raid?, how do you know the ram capacity, what am i looking for as far as sound, whats AGP, PCI and express. sorry for all the ?'s any info would be great.
Thanks
Nick

agp= Accelerated Graphics Port all motherboards built today have one, it's where you plug in your graphics card Maximum speed of the agp port is 8x
PCI Express is going to replace agp PCI Express is faster 16X
When you figure out what mobo you want the specs will tell you how much ram it'll hold as well as type of ram.
Google is great for finding out things such as definitions to these but of course This forum is just as good a place as any as well.
A quick search revealswhats raid
Read the box, visit the website, ask. Most of the time, modern boards will support 2GB for crappy, cheap boards and 3/4GB for more solid boards.how do you know the ram capacity
You tell us! If you need a specific connector then make sure the board supports itwhat am I looking for as far as sound, whats AGP, PCI and express.
