what anti virus software should i use

my mcaffe subscription expires in 30 days and i was wondering if its worth renewing or should i download a free program what are some good antivirus and spyware and fire wall programs and other programs

Avast is great...so is AVG and they have free versions.

But i use Nod antivirus (Paid) and i love it

and i don't think defragging is a good idea while running a scan

no nod doesn't have firewall but it has 4 specific modules, antivirus, office,mail and internet protection

Spyware Terminator
SpyBot Search & Destroy
Ad-Aware

You can have more than one anti-spyware program so that one may detect what the others cannot.

For anti-virus:
AVG Anti-Virus
Avast

For firewall:
Zonealarm
COMODO Firewall

these are all free I believe.

Are you scanning you A:, CD Drives?

You can do an through scan, or an quick scan.

I've never used Avast or Nod 32, but I can tell you that AVG Free works flawlessly. Even Windows Defender should be sufficient for anti-spyware. Zone Alarm or Windows Firewall should suffice.
