What are AMD like now?

What are AMD's like nowadays? When I used to use them, they burnt out after a certain amount of time, kept on getting system errors with them. Exactly why I move to pentium, they seemed to handle heavy work load much better.

Is AMD now the better buy? It used to be cheaper, and faster, but less reliable. Don't know how things have changed now.

Right now AMD's are the best for gamers. I never had a problem with my Athlon 64 or Sempron.

thats a very controversial question to be asking in a forum fuull of enthusisats/fanboys, lol. The last AMD i ever encountered was an AMD K6-2 500Mhz, so naturally ALL of my pc builds have been intel based. i cant vote for AMD this time, sorry.

Well

The quality and reliability are comparable to that of Intel. Remember that AMD is gaining growing popularity and that would not be happening if they would not be problem-free. I have owned an Athlon XP 1800+ and that lasted for some 4 years without a single problem *overclocked to 2Ghz as well*. Now I have an Athlon 64 3000+ heavily overclocked and it has been serving me for over a year and I have no problems whatsoever. Really, it is up to you which way you choose to go. Go Intel or AMD and you will get quality, reliability and performance in both cases.

I agree totally. They both make great chips. If you want to build a gaming rig then go AMD. If you are doing a workstation, enconding, rending that sort of thing Intel seems to come out on top.

lets put this to bed,

there is no noticable difference in the longevity of amd vs intel chips. There is no difference in stability either.

There are differences in performance and architecture, best place to understand these is the 101's

As people have suggested amd for gaming, intel for heavy multiasking. This is for the most part true, and at the risk of being vague im not going to argue with it.

However, with the next gen chips on there way the playing field may change somewhat soon.

Now as for oc'ability, there's not much in them, and they again cant really be compared. You will get a high mhz oc from intel on average, but where performance is concerned there is little to no difference in oc'ability
