What are barebone computers?

They are basically a case, motherboard and PSU, usually pretty bad, but cheap and cheerfull for a media center PC

They have a case, motherboard, processor and psu. They are good if you want a cheap computer or are a novice (everything is compatible).

I would suggest piecing together the parts you want since you usually only save a coupple dollars and you don't always get everthing you* want.

*this is my personal opinion if it really is something you want, go for it

Edit: everyone beat me to it. LOL maybe I should type faster :)

The very first system I built contained a Barebones base. They are good for beginners and/or if you want to save some time shopping and a bit of $. There are higher-end Barebones as well - they're not all crap. FWIW, my first build lasted me about 4 years and sees life still today in another application.
