What are good brands of MOBO's to look at

I see a wide range of MOBO's out there for computer builds - and I've read that Dell's and HP's use cheap motherboards in their computers.

When looking - are there a handful of brands that I should limit myself to - so that I know I'm getting a reliable board for a PC build.

Converselly - are there brands that I should avoid at all costs?

Asus,Gigabyte,MSI,eVGA,DFI,Foxconn,Asrock.

I would buy any of them as theyre good known brands.

Theres others out there which tend to be cheaper such as Biostar,ECS,, but im not sure how good quality they are.

You mentioned Hp....Hps as far as i know use Asrock motherboards which are designed by Asus....mines been running in my old Hp for 5 years now and its still running to this day.

I'm kind of partial to ASUS and Gigabyte. I'm sure there are plenty of other ones out there that will work great though. Just look on Newegg and be sure to read reviews.
 
I've had good luck with Foxconn and EVGA, and it turns out that Foxconn makes EVGA and XFX boards, so...

I wouldn't hesitate to buy an Asus or Gigabyte or MSI.

Just not sure of the "Jetway". lol

Depends if your going with Intel or AMD. Asus and Gigabyte makes good boards for both. XFX and EVGA makes better Intel boards than they do AMD boards. Foxconn and MSI are 50/50 on both AMD and Intel, depends on what model. Asrock/ECS/Pcchips/Jetway are pretty much lowerend or junk (Biostar is in this group but a tad bit better board overall). DFI makes pretty good boards for both with alot of overclocking features.

The best mainboards in the industry are the Supermicro and Tyan. But they are expensive and used mostly for servers. Both companies make desktop mainboards but they aren't cheap. Among the cheap brands it is pretty hard to beat ASUS. They are the largest mainboard company on the planet for good reason. Personally, I think their on board ethernet is weak but otherwise, there isn't much to complain about. Gigabyte is also pretty decent among the cheap brands. So is Intel. I've built 10's of thousands of PC's over the years and I would stick with these personally.

I use Tyan and ASUS boards in my personal PC's.
 
The GIGABYTE GA-MA790XT-UD4P is a good motherboard.

The AMD Phenom II 710 Tri-Core processor is a decent processor that is compatible with it and it is $120 at NewEgg.com.
