What are macros for a keyboard?

I just got a fancy new wireless mouse/keyboard combo and the keyboard has a ton of extra keys. It came with microsoft Intellitype Pro which lets me change what some of the keys do (sweet) but only to pre-defined commands. I'm assuming macros are to create your own custom commands? Most importantly I'd like to program a button to minimize a window because for some reason the pause/play/forward/back buttons don't work on itunes if it's minimized so I want to open it, use the buttons, then minimize it all from the keyboard...help?

thanks guys

Macros are a series of key strokes or movements of the mouse you set up as a time saving feature for repetitive tasks. As far as hot keys Windows already has a set of key combinations of it's own for various functions including closing open windows or simply minimizing them. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/126449

yeah I knew that but there's no windows hot key for just minimizing the current window (the only ones I saw minimized ALL windows...)
