What are some good laptop brands and prices?

Hey guys, my brother is heading to UNI and is wanting to buy a reliable but yet still want to enjoy the great features of a laptop. What are some good reliable brands for a laptop. I dont have much experiences with laptops and their lifespans but they are great for what they do. My brother has a budget of $1000 AUD to spend. Can you guys please help me out? My brother has his UNI in a month or so and i want to help him as much as i can.
