What are the main advantages of Windows 8 over Windows 7?

I have read that for Desktop Users it will just be another Windows OS. But Laptop Users will see a version that has functions like a ipad.

The main changes seem to be to the gui for devices with touchscreens such as phones, tablets, etc... MS wants windows 8 to be able to run on as many platforms as possible.
 
Windows 8 due to launch in 2012 focuses more on touchscreen for tablet devices and not so much for desktops, there will be mouse gestures, swipes etc but is primarily aimed at a touch device.
 
I've that they also want to have one OS on every platform desktop,laptop,phone,tablet unlike apple with os Lion and iOS
