If the case is too old buying a small ide drive would be the way to go since some older models didn't run sata drives without a controller card added in. Well, after a local computer tried to screw me by selling me an old giant crt for $45, I found a Dell moniter in really good condition at a local pawn shop for $15. Also had to buy a keyboard for $10 at walmart. That HD you posted looks pretty good, but i think i will have to wait like a month or something and make sure everything will work first.
That's a little of what you would actually need anyways for simply playing around with an old beater case. But it's there for later use on a newer build or simply adding a larger drive in. But you can see how the prices on ide drives in particular have fallen sharply.
When first thinking my first 250gb ide went on a build last year I shelled out $180 at a retail outlet and later spent less to see a 500gb sata drive. I couldn't waait there to order online for that case. A 13gb model once cost $200 at Compusa! That was what 8yrs. ago. An 80gb also seen went for about $40- at newegg when browsing.
