WHAT "bad" websites?

Please excuse my naïveté: exactly what types of websites am I supposed to steer clear of to avoid contracting malware infections?

Well start by using Firefox along with the WOT (Web of Trust) add on, you should stay away from any red/bad rated sites otherwise it's all common sense really.

porn and anything that has to do with some kind of illegal activity usually has viruses

Pornographic, illegal downloading, shoddy online game sites.

+1 for the Firefox suggestion.

Serial/crack sites almost ALWAYS give you viruses/spywares etc.

and if you do all that life will be very boring indeed

Also, Don't forget, even seemingly harmless sites can harm. Such as the whole Gala-Sites.

If anything just generally seems 'off', I'd hit that back button as fast as my fingers could move.

and websites that say you dont have shockwave or flash installed and give a pop up of an installation. just press cancel and close it, read the box carefully if a pop up comes up and choose the correct one to close the tab. I remember few years ago stumbling to play a online game then i ended up downloading a malware cause i downloaded a popup of a shockwave.exe lol
