i have installed a new graphics card (geforce 6200). It works fine but after about 10 mins of game play it overheats... Im using a household fan stood next to my computer with the side open to keep it cool and it works alright, but i would not like this to be the only way i could play games. Do i need a new CPU fan?

thanks

I don't think the 6200 will have a temperature sensor. How do you know that its overheating? Are you getting game crashes and stuff like that? Its not always due to hardware overheating, I think you should investigate other causes before you draw the conclusion that your hardware is overheating especially when your hardware doesn't have a hardware monitoring chip.

games freeze after 10 mins of play, i put the fan next to the computer and it doesnt freeze. it must be overheating

Then you have inadequate cooling, or your CPU is overheating causing freezes (see a video on youtube) cause you dont have a CPU cooler, or geta small fan for the heatsink, case fans, bay coolers, expansion slot coolers, video coolers (i can describe more if needed), watercooling.

My 6800 GT card is over clocked to 435Mhz water cooled and gets around 65 c. In the 70s is pushing it a bit the series 6 GPU do run a lot hotter sthan processors don't let it get higher than 70 c.

The fan on my card died it was easy to stop with my fingure and the card was hitting over 80 c and crashing games. have a look at what Zaleman has they do cooling for all sorts of gear including water cooling for any graphics card. Check out these coolers http://www.zalman.co.kr/eng/product/code_list.asp?code=013 The top one with no fan is incompatible with most cards look at the fan coolers.

to answer your question. it was my GPU temp at 75, not CPU. So i need a GPU cooler?

those are for 6600s. Get a video expansion slot coper. there are 1/2 fans on them and the are placed right by the vvideo card and blow 30+ CFM toward it.
