the type of ram that came with my computer/mobo was pc 2700

does this mean the only kind of ram i can hold is pc 2700??

my mobo is a
Motherboard Name Intel Brownsville D845GBV / Brownsville 2 D845GEBV2 / Rexburg D845GRG / Rexburg 2 D845GERG2

from what i can tell form other websites, it only appears to hold pc2700. if it would hold 3200 it wouldnt make much difference. and it can take up to 2GB

Since you've got a Gateway it's either an 845GE or GV (they tend to not put in faster RAM then they need too) You can get away with any DDR RAM but more PC2700 is the best way to go.

You can use any speed of ram, it will just run at the speed of the fastest ram that is listed as compatible.
