I was going to put together a computer for a friend, and he wants 1.5tb's of storage....so I was wondering which option I should go with (keep in mind, I dont want to use raid, and neither does he)..they will use sata by the way

1). 2 x 750gb
2). 1 x 1tb & 1 x 500 gb
3). 1 x 1.5tb

?
Which would you guys advise me to get?...

ALSO I was wondering which blueray burner would you guys recommend for around 200 $ ?....

Thank you very much everyone!!

Any option other than the third. Atleast then if one drive fails he still has the other while waiting for the drive to come back from RMA'ing it.

For burner I would go with this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136155

But I wouldn't buy a Blu-Ray Burner just yet as the media is ridiculously expensive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817130044 You are better off just buying 5 DVD's ($1 if you buy this:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817132067 ) I also heard that Blu-Ray won't be around that long.

Thanks, very helpful.....!

Also, I only have 2 sata ports on the motherboard I will use for the comp.....-I guess there is no IDE blue ray burner?...or should I get one IDE hdd(maybe the secondary one) and one SATA(for the main one) ?...

I DO have a pci card which adds a sata port or 2, but I would rather not use it...(what do you guys suggest?)....

Thanks all!

I would use the card. You shouldn't be spending money on an old technology like IDE. You would be better off with the SATA's because most likely the next computer will have SATA support.

Have you already bought the motherboard? There are many good, cheap mobo's out there with more than 2 SATA ports.

yes I will be adding those parts to a computer I have built already about a year ago...
I was planning on using the sata card to help me with my xbox360, but it WAS only about 12$ so I guess I can throw it in there for him and order myself another one in the future, huh?....

well,
any hdd's you guys want to recommend? I like western digital and maxtor...I hear seagate is good too? BUT I also hear it is not so im like IDK :confused:about seagate...anyways....maybe some of you could recommend a brand at least, or link me to a drive or two?.. thank you very much!
