What computer should I build?

I'm an average user and like to play games like Rage so if I build an i7 that would cost me $1500 or an i3 that would cost me $500 and put them side by side, will I be able to tell the difference? If so what would be the cheapest computer build that I couldn't tell the difference? I think that most people that build their own system will spend twice as much money for a 10% gain but that's something I want to avoid.

What is your budget?
What u need to check is which cpu bottleneck which gpu.

For $500 component, probably be intel g3258 + h81 mobo + 8gb ram + r9 270.
For $600 -800, probably fx6300/ fx8320, amd 970 mobo, with single high end gpu.
For $1000 or above, i5 4690k z97 mobo. There is no point going for i7 for gaming, it is not worth spending extra.

It honestly depends on what screen res you play the game at, what GPU you use and loads of other factors. Comparing a $500 system to a $1500 one is ridiculous - of course you will see a noticeable with the $1500 one - but don't spend $1500 on a system if you don't need to.

You've written so many threads asking for advice on parts but have you actually built anything yet? I think you need to read this thread of yours again because it answers your question: http://www.computerforum.com/229304-i5-vs-i7.html and some of the stuff in this thread is a little outdated now but it's still good advice: http://www.computerforum.com/226773-building-my-last-computer.html.

As I said in your 'Building my last computer' thread, Rage only calls for a 9800 GTX and a Core 2 Quad, so you really don't spend $1500 on a system to max it. You could max it with an i3 and a GTX 750 Ti - something along that spec would cost $500-600.

No it's actually far cheaper to build your own system as you can get parts that are on sale and your not paying someone to build it for you. An i7 is faster and better performing than an i5 but in terms of gaming you would notice maybe 5% better performance. But for video editing, compressing there will be more of an increase. Make sure to get a good cooler for future over clocking and get the K version if you get an intel processor.

If you want to keep it as cheap as possible go for AMD. You will still get good performance. I'd go for the best you can buy even if that means waiting a little while. But a $1500 PC will be far superior to a $500 one obviously.

I understand what you mean. I did try and build a i5 4670 but something went wrong so the next time I post on building a compter I will be ordering parts within a day or two. Sorry for the nagging.

If you haven't bought anything yet get a 4690K.

Didn't realise you tried to build a machine with a 4670. What went wrong?
