I will buying my wife a laptop for Christmas. She is a teacher and needs one for desktop replacement; occasionally will take it to work but is not a priority. This will be used for Office 2010, internet research, emails, logging onto the school server, skype, CD/DVD burning, occasional video streaming, but no gaming whatsoever.
I have been doing a lot of research and with her requirements I settled upon the following hardware and OS: 4 gigs of RAM, Windows 64 home premium, a 15.6" screen, and a i3 cpu should just do fine. However, I realize you get what you pay for and so the question as subject. After getting burned a few years ago with HP's entry level DV6000 series I want to choose wisely.
So, what constitutes a mid-range system from a pricing point and build point? I can take the above requirements and spend as little as $499 all the way above $1000. I realize you can't compare one manufacture to another because they will have individual guidelines as to what they offer in low, mid and high end systems.
Nevertheless, I would appreciate some good parameters as I continue to research.
Thanks!
