What CPU do I have?

A friend gave me an AMD Athlon CPU and I would like to try my hand an building my first system with it but I don't have a clue what I can use it with...I have a good bare bones tower that another friend gave me but he said mobo was fried, but good power supply and cdrom so I have a pretty good start if I only knew what kind of chipset I needed....The only reason I know its an AMD Athlon is because its wrote on it,along with some other numbers, but nothing like clock speed or anything...Anyone know how I can find out what it is?......

Pretty sure its a Athlon XP 3000 that runs on a 333 FSB. Motherboard Socket A. Bet it looks like this either brown or green

is there a number on the cpu like this 3200+ or any numbers with + on the end?

The only other markings is "made in Malaysia 27493" I just talked to the guy and he said he thought it was in the 3000 series Barton and that its a 462 chipset...I sure hate to buy anything unless I know for sure just what it is.....

Well stock its 2.166ghz. For a old single core Socket A processor it was pretty good. I had a few of them. The biggest one made that the public could buy was a Athlon XP 3200 that was 2.2ghz. There was a few Athlon XP 3400 but was hard to find, then they dropped the XP series and changed to the Athlon 64 with socket 754

Dude you can really build a super cheap computer with that, but it won't get you too far...lol i have the same kind of socket A, except i have a Sempron @ 1.8ghz... I mean AMD's are the best for gaming in my opinion, and Intels are just better for Multitasking.... but umm don't get the MS-7061 MObo, its good and all but no OC options for your CPU.... do you still want help building the system cuz i wouldn't mind helping you, but i doubt popular stores like Newegg, or Tigerdirect is going to do you much good.... Except fro RAM, HD, GFX Card, Case, Fans, an PSU the MoBo you have to look somewhere else.
