What CPU is right for me?

well I've been thinking about updating my CPU to a 2.0GHz processor. I have a 1.6 right now but I'm asking do I want upgrading? I play do a little gaming once in a while. I basically just surf the web and listen to music. But It would be nice to have the extra speed cause I use programs like Photoshop and cool edit pro. So.......what speed would be right for me?

CPU101
should answer most of your questions

and clock speed doesn't determine how good a processor is
for example, an Athlon64 3800+ @ 2.4 GHz will out perform a Pentium 4 running @ 3.0 GHz even though it runs at a lower clock speed

ya, basically switch to something faster.

and my budget is sorta small. I'm a 16 year old kid with no job. But I have allowance. heh heh. Just takes time to save up.

if i were you i would go for athlon64 3000+ socket 939 for 150$, and OC it, but then of course you would have to spend another 150$ for a new mobo

i'd just get a cheap processor, either the Athlon64 3000+ or P4 3.0GHz

i wouldnt spend money on a new P4 2Ghz, since you will be paying alot of money and wont be getting a lot more speed. If you havent done so already, you would probably be able to overclock your P4 1.6 to a 2Ghz (or close to it), if you really want a new cpu, i would reccommend getting at least a 2.8Ghz, or get an AMD (I have the sempron 2800+ and it is awsome! and only costs $70)

For $185 you can get a new mobo (I got A7N8X) and an nice Athlon XP 2800+ (barton) at newegg.com. I have my Barton OC'd at 2.33 Ghz. It runs very well.

Just Overclock ur cpu & use until it burns ur cpu & save more from allounce after that ask here agin for cpu & MB and don't forget to mention ur budget ;)

So that way your stuck without a computer untill you can save up...real smart...

ya I don't wanna take the risk of overclocking my computer. My parents already have panic attacks when I just upgrade the thing.
