What cpu?

Looking at getting a new computer and was wondering what would be better a AMD Quad core or a Intel core 2 duo? I know there is limited software that takes advantage of dual core cpu's right now so is there realy a need for a quad core?

get a Quad core Intel....you will not be dissapointed.

im not an Intel fanboy before everyone starts ranting,i was looking at info for the Phenom2 s today they look intresting, you could wait until they are released but i doubt they will be cheap. ;)

question is realy.....what do you intend to do on your pc? Gaming..... or just the usual Internet/Email surfing?

I do alot of video editing and run heavy cpu programs as well as some gaming, however the program I run will take advantage of a dual core cpu but not a quad core so that being said would I just be wasting my money on a quad core? Do you see alot of programs actually using quad core cpu's in the near future? I dont see very many programs that take advantage of dual cores right now and they have been around for quite a while now.

you say "video editing and run heavy cpu programs" definatly quad.;)

no you wont be wasting your money if you opt for a Quad core over the dual core even though the software you use is optimised for dual core it will still run great if not better having 2 more cores.

Alright thank you....one more question now, what quad core? You say Intel but What about the AMD quad core? How do they stack up against eachother? I dont want to build my own computer and I can get a realy great price on an AMD machine right now. Would the Intel be worth the extra cost?

Alright thank you....one more question now, what quad core?

depends what your budget is....alot of people went with intel quads because the AMD Phenom quads had a TLB bug,not sure if the newer phenoms have that bug anymore though.

i would say atm that paying that extra for an intel build is better, you could get an I7 build.

again budget comes into mind.
