What diagnostic is the best indicator of hd health?

I've been trying out HD Tune, Seatools, WD Data LifeGuard on WD drives.

I'm hoping to shorten the time involved. What test would you consider to be the most likely indicator of whether a drive is in good shape or not? The HD Tune error scan seems to cover an important aspect of the drive's health - whether there are bad blocks on the drive. Unfortunately it takes a long time to do the full test. I have a lot of drives I want to test.

Thoughts, suggestions?

Thanks.

I really don't mess with those other types of programs. I always use the drive manufacturers disk diagnostic utility. And its really not a good idea to use someone else utility unless you have to. So I wouldn't use seatools on a western digital drive or vice versa.

Because each drive is different. Seatools may not read WD drives correctly. I tried something like this a few years ago and it would scan and say there are errors but wouldn't fix them, said to use the drive manufacturers tool to fix.
