What do hackers want to steal/destroy?

Not that i dont have antivirus or something, but if something happens and a hacker gets access into my PC - what will he do?
Will he just look for credit card number/pin number and leave? Will he just delete everything out of spite?
Will he watch my videos? Will he dig into folders and look into word files? Look into pictures? He goes through all documents that seem interesting to him manually - or does he just run some search program that looks for passwords and goes away?

Unless you're someone really famous, this is very unlikely to happen. No hackers capable of doing such things will waste their time doing stuff like that.
 
Agreed that it is unlikely. To expand on what SpringWater already mentioned, if I am good enough to break into systems, I would rather spend my time trying to gain access into database that stores lots of information for many computers rather than accessing one PC at a time.

If he is working with end devices he probably does it with spyware, keyloggers, etc... probably not manually. It's all about efficiency

its the adventure and figuring it out. thats what they do.
They are there.
 
I doubt he's gonna be too bothered by your photos and letters to your grandma. He's not gonna waste his time with stuff like that.

He's going to be more interested in your credit card details and online passwords. That's where the money is for him.
