We have an AT&T U-verse 802.11 b/g router. It's at the very north end of the house. We can get a decent signal half-way through the house, but at the south end...nothing.

I don't know what kind of device is needed to improve the signal so it makes it all the way to the other end of the house. I'm looking to get a laptop in the next month or so and my bedroom is at the farthest south end of the house. It's a one-story house with a basement, but no concern for using wireless in the basement for quite some time since it's unfurnished.

Repeater? Range booster? Access point?? I don't know what kind of wireless device to purchase. Brand/model not needed unless you have a suggestion. Just a home network, not business, so nothing super-expensive.

Thanks so much!!

You need two access points.

Set one up as an access point on top of the router, turning off routers wireless.

Second one is set up as a repeater and placed about 2/3rds of the way down the property.

This way you will get wireless throughout the property.

Setting an access point on top of the router will automatically turn off the wireless from the router or I have to do this manually somehow?

Thanks for the first answer!!

I had same problem when I used to rent a basement suite. My landlord had the modem upstairs and opposite end of house and the signal was brutal.

I bought a D-Link wireless-n router and had it in my suite and the signal was always perfect from then on.
